Setting up PicLan-IP in COLDSTART

General principles

The PicLan-IP software must execute from within the PICLAN-IP account. Due to the large number of programs and support files, it is not practical to setup PicLan-IP server functions to run from other accounts. As such, the system COLDSTART proceedure will need to log to a synonym account of the PICLAN-IP account in order to start the PicLan-IP server functions.

Setting up the System Account Pointer

You will first need to setup a synonym account item called PICLAN-IP-COLDSTART in the SYSTEM (or mds,, for D3) file. Here is the format of this item for each type of host:

As specified above, this synonym account is not passworded. In that you should create passwords on all accounts, you should also do this here. Execute the system PASSWORD command (or equivelent) to create a password for the PICLAN-IP-COLDSTART account.

Setting up the System COLDSTART Proc

The next step is to add the following command to the very end of the system COLDSTART (or USER-COLDSTART) proceedure:

HLOGTO PICLAN-IP-COLDSTART,password
P

You should use the password that you setup for the PICLAN-IP account.

It is important to realize that the COLDSTART proceedure will not continue after this command. As such, make sure that you place this command at the very end of the COLDSTART processing.

What the PICLAN-IP-COLDSTART Account Does

When the system COLDSTART proceedure logs to the PICLAN-IP-COLDSTART account is logged to, it's logon proc will execute. This proc contains the following commands:

PLIP-INIT                native hosts only
PLIP-LOAD                NT hosts only
PLIP-CLEANUP
PLIP-START (M
OFF

As such, this will load the PicLan-IP support drivers, initialize the TCP/IP address stacks, cleanup old connections, and then start he PicLan-IP server processes. After all of this completes, the COLDSTART proceedure will log off.
